KL Rahul has been a run-scoring machine for Kings XI Punjab in the last couple of seasons in the IPL. However, on Sunday in their final league game of IPL 2020 against Chennai Super Kings, KL Rahul broke another record that has sealed his class. When Rahul hit two fours and a single off Shardul Thakur in the fifth over, KL Rahul broke a record. The Kings XI Punjab skipper went past his previous highest tally of runs of 659 which he set in IPL 2018 to score the most number of runs in a single season for Kings XI Punjab. In 2018, KL Rahul had broken the 10-year mark of 616 runs which was set by Shaun Marsh in the inaugural edition of the tournament.
However, it has taken Rahul just two years to break his own record. Although the Kings XI Punjab skipper fell for 29, he has ensured that he now has the most runs in IPL 2020 and is certain to win the Orange Cap.
Records for Rahul
In the second game for Kings XI Punjab against Royal Challengers Bangalore, KL Rahul benefited from two dropped catches by Virat Kohli as he smashed 132, which became the highest individual score by an Indian player in the history of the IPL breaking the mark of 128 set by Rishabh Pant a couple of years ago. KL Rahul has been supremely consistent and although his strike-rate is an issue, he has led from the front as Kings XI Punjab skipper with the bat.
Kings XI Punjab lost six out of their first seven games at the start of IPL 2020 before staging a resurgence. They missed the services of Chris Gayle due to illness but when he came back, Kings XI Punjab won five games on the trot. However, their momentum was halted by a loss to Rajasthan Royals.
Kings XI Punjab need to win against Chennai Super Kings if they have to enter the playoffs. A loss against MS Dhoni’s team will eliminate them from the race while a spot will be potentially sealed if Delhi Capitals or Royal Challengers Bangalore suffer big defeats and that Sunrisers Hyderabad lose to Mumbai Indians in the last league game on November 3.
